Magnolias
Two magnolias live
In close proximity
To a railroad track
And a coffee shack
And a bookstore as I see
Both survived the winter
Of ice, and snow, and wind
And both now sing
The song of spring
Though one displays a bend
One tree holds its leaves of green
Present all the time
On the other purple blossoms bloom
Sweetness floats to the reader’s room
Where poets speak in rhyme
Though their bios differ
They are treefully alike
They greet the train that rides the track
Wait patiently ‘till it comes back
A rumble in the night
May these woody cousins
Standing proud and tall
Be testament to all of us
Who have a tendency to fight and fuss
That we too are much the same after all
